Who are we?
Velvet Bloom’s music speaks to the human spirit with an oozing honey pot of silky vocals, lush soundscapes and raw emotion. Fusing delicate songwriting with a luscious and vibrant soul sound that can fill any venue.
Making up this soul collective is Alex Markowitsch, guitarist, bassist, and producer of Velvet Bloom bringing guitar licks and riffs as glossy as his long wavy hair. Miguel Hutton (Stevie Jean, Jothi, King River Rising) providing his steady groove to the Velvet Bloom keys, synth, synth bass and percussion. On the drums is Nic Morton who keeps a tight rhythm allowing lavish chords to wash over. Last but not least, is guitarist, lead vocalist and primary songwriter of all that is Velvet Bloom, Maddy Herbert. A literal ray of sunshine inside a human being that beams from centre stage and warms the entire room no matter where you are standing. Maddy’s vocals have been described as buttery, soulful, angelic, and ethereal. Her songs are lyrically and vocally driven, always profound and reflective with a focus on healing, mental health, self-worth, and identity. Every word is intentional and thoughtful. All members bring their own compelling flavours to add to the delicious melting pot that is Velvet Bloom.
“One of the most important and eye-opening things I’ve learnt while working with Velvet Bloom is how much care and intricacy Maddy [Herbert] takes with her vocals in the recording process,” Grunden says. “A bad take for Maddy is rare; it seriously blows my mind. The rest of the band are exactly the same in their respective areas and work like a dream as a collective.” – Quin Grunden, Beat magazine
“Equal parts enthralling and enchanting, Velvet Bloom is undeniably on the cusp of big things in the near future.” - Tyler Jenke, Rolling Stone Magazine
